The first phase of the expansion project of Tate Modern Art Museum designed by Herzog&de Meuron has been completed, and the first exhibition will be opened in July this year.

The original industrial spaces such as East Oil Tank and South Oil Tank were used to display works of art, perform or show movies. This is also the preparation for the London 2012 Art Festival.

Nicholas Serota, curator of Tate Modern Art Museum, said that compared with the past ten to fifteen years, more artists and art performance forms have emerged in modern society, and the oil tank renovation in the industrial zone where the art museum is located has provided opportunities to display these art forms.

At the 2012 London Art Festival, a series of art projects will be displayed after the reconstruction of the two oil tanks in the southeast. The original two oil tanks used to transport energy for the power station have not been used since 1981. They are 30 meters wide and 7 meters high.

The new building will be completed in 2016.
